Treasure Beach Forum: TB Runnin's: Turey's posts on this site

is it too rude for posting here to say that i respectfully disagree with those who are saying they love all of turey's posts here?

i just clicked on the '24 hours' link to the left and out of 26 posts, 8 were his. that's about 33%, or 1 in 3. i feel that they are 'taking over' from the treasure beach theme here. i mean posts about the HLC are interesting, but what do they have to do with jamaica, other than the same thing they has to do with, say, outer mongolia.

its obvious that some people here really enjoy what he has to say, so i may be in the minority. but then again not everyone posts their opinions here so there could be a silent majority.

i don't like when people just complain without giving a solution, so here's mine:
turey, you obviously are a deep thinker and love sharing your views with others. how about creating your own blog and posting there. its pretty easy to do (and free) and it could increase your audience to more than just the treasure beach crowd.

but maybe the people who run this site like the xtra traffic that his (he's a him, right?) posts bring to the site so they wouldn't want it. i have to admit i don't have a good handle on what their ultimate goal is here regarding growing the web site, but that's a whole nother posting.

To first time poster since we live in a democratic country we have the right to freedom of speech?

Me too! Not interested if it does not concern the community of TB.

Lighten up and give the guy a break... geez. He did accomplish one thing for you First time poster... He got you to write! At least he writes new things... Time and time again I see the same questions asked over and over again, and the answers are always the same. Check keywords and previous posts. I think there are people on this site who use different names, thus also write several times, you just don't know it. I will be in Jamaica in 3 weeks, and wish Turey was going to be there, as I would love to meet him. Have you opened up some of his links lately? Like about the Taino people who lived in Jamaica. Fascinating article. I knew about Tainos/Arawacks, but the article taught me more than anything ever. If that has nothing to do with Jamaica, as you claim, maybe you should do more research on Jamaica and her people. I believe Turey is Jamaican with different backgrounds.
Sure, some of the things he says makes you scratch your heard and go 'huh?'
Turey, YOU ROCK BREDREN!

Heres a better solution- don't click on them and they won't bother you.

For those of us who know Turey who is a Jamaican, who is a landowner in Treasure Beach, who is a historian and a whole lot more- his posts are very educational, informative and insightful.

Most of his posts have to do with the Taino (very much related to TB) and sustainable development (related to the world but very URGENTLY MORE IMPORTANT in areas such as ours).

I don't think the website is in danger of getting too big from this type of information sharing.

I am College educated yet Turey keeps me on my Ps and Qs sometimes, so I can imagine what his writing does to the average person. Although Turey is not considered TB Native, he has done much for us. I enjoy your writing, your style, your sense of humor and history. For sure I don't have to use my dictionary for your spelling but for you know what.

Turey, thanks to you I am a lot more educated and less ignorant. History is a good thing and I am grateful to you for the lessons especially the ones about the Taino. There is more to TB than Sta dis an dat or Bredda dis an dat (perhaps you could enlighten us about Bra Mangoos and Sta Pig). Yuh smart and well learned and we just have to stop and appreciate goodness when we see and hear it.

Treasure Beach is only a very small part of a much larger world, so don't expect every post on this site to be related specifically to this small community or even Jamaica. If you find something not to your liking, then just move on!
It's not as if Turey's posts are taking up space which would otherwise have been filled with matters more relevant to TB. Part of the problem (as well as the charm, to a certain extent) of this community is that it is so parochial. But we are living in a very inter-connected world, and the more we learn about each other the better.
Ironically, Turey's reference to the Tainos might be far more relevant to Treasure Beach than some think. After all, it is believed that the Tainos (Arawaks) were in this part of the island long before our Scottish/ English and African ancestors ever set foot on Jamaican soil!
Ignore Turey's posts where you do not find them relevant to your concerns/ interests (like I do, sometimes) but please support his right to do so. I'm sure there will always be others interested in what he has to say.

I too had started to find Turey's posts a bit over my head a few times. I kept reading them because
sometimes he would hit a good note so I didn't want to throw the baby out with the bathtub. From what I understand he wants to set up his arawak museum in Great Bay?

Sometimes when I think I have seen and heard it all, someone like First time poster comes along and blows my mind. I mean, did you really take the time to do such "analytical research"? Amazing.
Turey's contributions are very much appreciated and, as others have noted, very relevant to Ja and TB.If his posts bother you so much, just don't read them.

No I'm not pouting in a corner after being rejected. Been there done that.

I had an early morn dentist app and am just recovering from the torture.

I know some of my posts trigger various emotions, they were meant to. I hope smiling was the main reaction. I'll discuss the other reactions when appropriate.

First time poster as I bun complaining long time, please tell me when I lapsed. Perfect faaaaar from it, perfection is my goal not my condition. My main ambition is to be a sweet old boy and keep dancing and asking.

Hope to meet you one day Mike and thanks for the big ups brothers and sisters. I'm a shy one and blush easily...red on red.

TBNet, I promise to keep the Muses entertained and busy offline.

Later will be greater.

I can see Turey, sitting there a little bummed out at the first few responses. But hopefully he has perked up a bit with the supportive posts. I am sure he is reading these not quite sure how to respond yet...Come on Turey, WRITE SOMETHING! I NEED MY DAILY FIX!

Sometimes when I see all the posts from Turey I think, "wow, this is going to be work." I feel compelled to open each link he posts because I know I will learn something - and that takes time. However, Turey doesn't live in a little vacuum, posting along aimlessly. When others have posted something he feels he should comment on, he does so. Those posts add something to the general conversation.

If First Time Poster doesn't want to read all Turey writes, then merely skip over them.

It's a lot easier to be a critic than an author. First Time Poster, even if you need to change your name on TB.net, how about YOU starting to add your thoughts and ideas to what everyone else is saying. This is a community. Stop standing on the outside of the circle, looking in. Join the party!

To each his own and different strokes for different folks...but a little food for thought is good for me.I think turey is doing a good job to stir consciousness, to harnest our resources and show more pride and gratitude for what we have and who we are.

Based on those of his pieces I have read his basic theme seems to promote a variety of sustainable local development that are environmentally friendly.

But is turey really a town man ? Seems like im have some sound country backgroud to his advantage.

Yes Hmmm, the idea and the objects for a museum in TB exist.

I am in touch with a reputable and experienced museum curator who is building a house in Jamaica.

An important part of the development is encouragement and feedback.

The Caretaker requests that this be the guiding song/prayer, with the Melodians permission: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-5E6_qtXAw

There will also be Mento, Kumina, Taino Arietos, arabic music, sephardic music, Celt etc etc.

Turey you must have me confused with Milwaukee Mike. Milwaukee, Minnesota. It's all the same. Nice summers, cruel winters unless you are a polar bear, or a Packer fan.

Keep doing your thing....

I just posted a thank you Ledra.

Following, I added a strong comment on my history.

If it is not published, I'll tame it for the sensitive.

TBNet, I'll try not to post when I'm too brindle.

Me again. I see some share my views, some don't. A lot like 'regular life', I suppose.

I'll pass on sharing my thoughts on free speech and simply re-ask Turey about a possible solution that would keep him and his mind posting to the Net for all to see while keeping this site focused on Treasure Beach:

Turey, why not get your own blog? I just saw that you posted something that you think might not get approved by the 'censors' here. If you had your own space, you could control it. You could still chime in on TB-related events here, but let your wider thoughts be posted where you can really let loose.

And you'd generate some goodwill among those of us who aren't as smitten with all your musings as others ;-)

Thanks First time poster, I am trying to understand if it's, the frequency of my postings, the amount of off TB topic postings, my meanderings or my frothings at the mouth that you object to.

I assume it's all of the above.

TBNet have been kind enough to tolerate periods of my high frequency postings. I am conscious that the webmasters of this and another site I participate in are often challenged by posters like myself. If they are a trouble they can be blocked. Sometime our tongues carry us whe...for better or not.

But enough of that...tell us about yourself and what you enjoy reading here.

What subjects should I not post on and how short would you prefer them to be.

You are right about getting off topic, this site is about Treasure Beach.

You are also probably correct in being cautious about your entertaining new ideas and having to follow tortuous reasonings, enjoying a 'regular life' has a comfort of its own.

At this time it would be unfair to any participants for me to be a blog master. I know when my last straw (as in the camels back) nears and I know when to back off, and when to rest.

I hope one day I can participate in tangible work in TB, like planting and building.

In the meantime I suggest you skip any postings with my name as some have suggested and continue being careful of thinking outside the village.

Turey, I disagree with you on the below sentence. We should always be aware of what goes on around or above us. Remember 9/11? No one was looking up.

In the meantime I suggest you skip any postings with my name as some have suggested and continue being careful of thinking outside the village.

Did anyone else read into first time visitors posting about Turey on 9/15 as mockery? My last 2 posts also must have been too sensitive.

You never saw my 'tongue-in-cheek' when I was composing TB2.

9/11 is waiting for time to confer objectivity, indicate/confirm culpability/guilt and understand triggering stressors.

Always keep the senses open to the 7 directions.

N, E, W, S, Up, Down and Within.

Maybe the LHC will reveal even more?

I feel the focus on my posts is being a distraction from important TB events.

If anyone has anything they want to take up with me I have posted my email. I dont bite (except on romantic moonlight nights).

I hope the canal, the sports park and the safety of our fishermen gets the attention they deserve.

Best, turey.

Turey, once again, is correct. Seems ironic that more time is being invested on writing about why someone writes too much! We are spending less time talking about TB, instead spending time on why things should be about TB! (according to some)....silly
