The Public Consultation On Draft National Fisheries Policy Meeting held at Jack Sprat Restaurant today 5/09/08 in my view was quite successful, despite the weather there was a large number of both officals and locals.
The meeting was cheered by Mr.Andrew Kong, director of Fisheries. Opening remarks done by Mr. Havelon Honeyghan,Chairman Ja. Fisherman Co-Op Keynote Address by Dr. The Hon. Christopher Tufton,Minster of Agriculture and Fisheries.
Dr. Tufton and his team gave us a broad overview of the Fisheries Policy and priority Programmes of the Ministry. I wont go jumping the gun and go into details as the Meeting was well covered by the Media and I am sure this will be aired or in the Press shortly.
The Floor was then opened to all to air their views which was well responded to by a number of Locals.
Closing remarks was done by Mr. Douglas Golding from the Fisheries Advisory Board
Lunch was served and everyone went their separate ways more educated on their do's and dont's of the Fishing Industry.
Thanks to Mr. Henzel for accomodating us and also
Those who participated.
Thanks for the report Bowl... sounds positive. Will watch for the media report!
Hope you are well - looong time no see!
Just a correction in the above posting (The meeting was chaired)by Mr. Andrew Kong.
Good job Bowl, it's nice to see an old friend looking out for the welfare of our people. Keep up the good work.
Make that Andre Kong.
Bowl, it doesn't look like the media is giving this coverage. Could YOU please tell us what happened at this meeting? By any chance, were the radios handed out? Is the antenna working again?
Fishermans Friend,
Did anybody promise a handout of radios at this meeting? You could give out any number of radios, if fishermen do not take them to sea or take good care of them then that measure will do them no good.
Fishermen should be asked to contribute to the purchase of items for their own safety and security. Unless they are required to do so many of them will continue to take such measures for granted.
