I am delighted to announce the appointment of Miss Zane Ebanks as Principal of Sandy Bank Primary School. She has officially “taken the reins” from Mrs. Norma Moxam who has just retired from her long and successful role as Principal.

Miss Zane is a lifelong resident of Treasure Beach—and resides in the Sandy Bank area. She has been teaching for the past 27 years.

She attended Sandy Bank Primary School—and then the Newell Junior Secondary School (now Newell High School). Miss Zane went on to Church Teachers' College where she obtained her Teachers' Certificate and Diploma in Primary Education. She did a one-year internship at Pepper All Age School in St. Elizabeth. After this, she was permanently employed by the Ministry of Education at Sandy Bank Primary School. There, she taught all six grades. Most of her teaching career was, however, spent teaching grade six students.

In 2000 she was appointed Master Teacher by the Ministry of Education.

In 2006 she received a B.A. Degree (with honors) in Guidance and Counseling at the International University of the Caribbean. She also has a certificate in Computer Applications.

She has received a National Council on Education award for outstanding contribution to school management in Jamaica, as well as one from the St. Elizabeth Homecoming Foundation in recognition of “significant contribution to education and commitment to human resource development.” She also has been involved in several community organizations including the Citizens' Association, and the Treasure Beach Emergency Response Unit. Moreover, she has served on the School Boards for both Sandy Bank Primary School and Sandy Bank Basic School.

I have known of Miss Zane for roughly 15 years from a host of parents and students. Universally, they all have nothing but the highest praise for her. She has the respect and admiration of the community, as well as the teachers at Sandy Bank.

In my personal dealings with her over the years, I have found her to be an admirable woman. She is a dedicated professional. Working with students is not a job to her; instead, it is a career. She cares about each and every student and works tirelessly to help each of them achieve their potential. She has the highest integrity and moral character. Her instincts are to be trusted, and her judgment is superb.

Additionally, due to what I would characterize as a major effort on the parts of Miss Zane and Mrs. Moxam, the students at Sandy Bank have achieved admirable scores on the GSATs—substantially above the national averages. I have watched Sandy Bank’s GSAT scores increase markedly over the years Treasure Beach Foundation has been awarding scholarships.

I urge each of you to offer Miss Zane the congratulations she so rightly deserves. And, I ask each of you to do whatever you can to support her to ensure Sandy Bank Primary School becomes even better than it already is.

I would like to add my congratulations for Miss Zane. I remember my first impression of you. I walked into the 6th grade room and saw so many hand made mobiles hanging from the ceiling, colorful posters, charts, etc. all over the walls, and was greeted with a big smile. I immediately felt comfortable and saw this room was filled with creativity and enthusiasm. I'm confident you will be a great asset to Sandy Bank Primary School and I look forward to working with you.

Congrats Zane! You'll be a fantastic principal. Here's a poem for you:

TEACHERS

Teachers
Paint their minds
And guide their thoughts
Share their achievements
and advise their faults

Inspire a Love
Of knowledge and truth
As you light the path
Which leads our youth

For our future brightens
With each lesson you teach
Each smile you lengthen
Each goal you help reach

For the dawn of each poet
Each philosopher and king
Begins with a Teacher
And the wisdom they bring.

By Kevin William Huff.

Congrats Miss Zane!! I was also taught by you in Grade 5 - umpteenth years ago. You were a great teacher with an artistic flavour and pleasant countenance.
I have no doubt you will fit into your new roll naturally, as you were always a dedicated and hard worker. It's a challenging job with challenging kids but you will definitely manage.
All the best to you in your new capacity, with your hard-working team of teachers, who I am sure will help to make your work easier.
