Judy Hall Neighbor of North Potomac, Maryland had been a visitor to Treasure Beach with her husband, Charles, for the last decade. She passed away unexpectedly on April 27, 2008—just after having turned 50.

Judy was a gifted artist who, beyond her professional work, enjoyed documenting her life and those of others with illustrations and watercolor paintings. She was joyful, with a wonderfully wry sense of humor, perceptive insight and a kind, caring heart.

She grew up in the Denver area, earned a degree in graphic arts from Colorado State University—and then a master's degree in fine arts from the Chicago Art Institute. At the time of her passing, she was the art director for Hanley Wood Publishing in Washington, D.C.

Prior to her untimely death, I was told she was at her happiest, having just enjoyed the "best weekend of her life," capped by attending a game played by her beloved Chicago Cubs.

In addition to her husband, Charles, she left her daughter, Anna; her granddaughter, Ruth Jean; her mother; two sisters and a brother; and a host of friends.

Her husband contacted me soon after her passing, asking if memorial donations in Judy’s name could be made to Treasure Beach Foundation. Since then, some 40 family members, friends, and co-workers have graciously contributed.

It is our intention to use the money donated in Judy’s name for something in Treasure Beach that would serve as a fitting memorial for a woman who loved Treasure Beach and its children. To that end, we have been working with Miss Zane Ebanks, the new Principal at Sandy Bank Primary—discussing ideas that might be appropriate.

We hope to have the decision made in September, and we would like to have the idea implemented as quickly as possible.

Should any of you who knew Judy—or knew of her—wish to contribute to her fund, donations are still being gratefully accepted. (These are separate and apart from our funds for scholarships.) You can make them securely online by going to http://www.rainbowtreevillas.com/foundation.html and clicking the Donate Now button; please be certain to specify your donation is being made in Judy’s name. Or, you can mail a check made out to Treasure Beach Foundation to:

11124 Rich Meadow Drive
Great Falls, VA 22066
U.S.A.

Donations in any amount whatsoever are welcome; all donations are fully tax-deductible in accordance with U.S. IRS regulations.

I did not know Miss Neighbor, but she looks like a wonderful person. This is quite sad.

I am very glad Miss Zane will be the principal. From everything I have heard, she will perform splendidly. This was an excellent choice.

I am still Plenty Angry about the Canal, and I stated my views about it - and why. Here is something totally different - a wonderful woman who passed early when the Lord called her home. While I know her family and friends would prefer she was still with them on this Earth, they have the wisdom to donate some money in her honor so she can be remembered - and help Treasure Beach at the same time. I never met Mrs. Neighbor but I am pleased she will be honored in Treasure Beach. I am pleased Treasure Beach Foundation will be doing something good in the school to help keep her memory alive. I offer my sympathies to her family and tell them Treasure Beach is grateful for what they are doing in her memory. Bless all of you.

Oh I am certain I saw this lady in Jack Spratt when I was last in Treasure Beach. She was with a nice gentleman, her husband. They seemed so happy. I feel bad for her husband and family, but it is fortunate he has fond memories of the time they spent in Treasure Beach.

I too offer my condolances.

We are close to making a decision on how these funds will be utilized. I am in the process of obtaining final approval from our Board of Directors and will then let you know.

Watch this space ...

Is there a difference between Treasure Beach Foundation and BREDS or are they the same organization?

I am curious about how the money will be used. Knowing who is behind it make me feel what ever its for will be for the best.

Treasure Beach Foundation is run by owners of Rainbow Tree Villa and Rainbow Point, Karen and Peter Kennedy, and raises money for high school scholarships awarded to students at Sandy Bank School as well as involvement in many other worthy causes. Breds is a different foundation.

BREDS is the same as The Treasure Beach Foundation. BREDS is the informal name, and The Treasure Beach Foundation is the formal name. These both refer to the Jamaican non-profit foundation which benefits the Treasure Beach area.

Treasure Beach Foundation (without The before the name) is a U.S.-based non-profit foundation which benefits Treasure Beach, most especially with regard to education. We are the organization that will be assisting Sandy Bank Primary School with the money being donated in honor of Judy Neighbor. We are the group that awards the scholarships.

I definitely understand the two names are confusing.

BREDS = Sports Park and TBERU Ambulance. Treasure Beach Foundation = Scholarships and helping schools. Simple.

Common sense says someone should change their name, or should have picked a different name to begin with. Who was first? Giving to either of these should be EASY!

Changing a name of a U.S. corporation is no easy matter. I have a feeling it may be equally difficult in Jamaica. By "not easy" I mean there are fairly expensive legal costs, not to mention redoing websites, stationery, and a host of other items. Additionally, a large amount of documentation must be changed with the Internal Revenue Service. All this was easier when BREDS went just by that name, though they may well be incorporated under "The Treasure Beach Foundation." If BREDS continued to go by that name, it would probably be more simple for all involved. However, I am not the decision maker, merely the conveyor of information.

Let's get off changing the name of an organization. What we should concentrate on is that a wonderful woman passed away, and something good for Treasure Beach will come out of this tragedy. This is obviously because she has a generous family, and the people of Treasure Beach made a wonderful impact on her all the times she visited. So many places SAY their people are different, but we KNOW our people are different and warm and caring. THAT is why we are benefiting from this sad occasion.

To her family and friends: We are very sorry for your loss and want you to know we will keep her in our hearts.

Treasure Beach has been blessed with an abundance of warm-hearted visitors and Judy Neighbor was one. She had been a part of us for the past ten years and her unexpected passing has left a void in our community.

On behalf of the Sandy Bank Primary School Family, I would like to express condolences to her husband Charles, daughter Anna, granddaughter Ruth Jean and other relatives and friends.

We are very grateful to become a part of the memory of Judy and graciously accept this offer from her family and friends. We know that this kind gesture will help to positively influence the children of Treasure Beach whom she loved dearly. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of the Sandy Bank Primary School family. Special thanks also, to the Treasure Beach Foundation for their assistance.

Out of respect to Ms. Hall, please only put condolences here. Start a new thread for any other topic regarding Sandy Bank funding, etc.

I would like to thank the students of Sandy Bank Primary School for their extreme thoughtfulness.

A large envelope of exquisite, heartfelt cards made by the students was recently deivered to me. They are all for the family of Judy Hall Neighbor, offering condolences and thanking them for the bookshelves.

I will be giving them to Mr. Neighbor next week, and I am certain he and his family will be unbelievably touched when they read them.
