Our athletes have done us proud over the years. This Olympic I am anxious to see how they will do.I think we could nab two medals in the mens 100M.I think Bolt and Powell can do it. I also think Campbell-Brown could give us a medal in the womens 100m.A bag of 10 medals or more could be coming home this time.We can depend on our sports men and women to keep our flag flying high.

Jamaica 1,2,3 women 100m.Could not contain myself.I see Shelley-Ann gives credit to the jamaican diet. I mean the yam, green bannanas and those delicious dumplings. Shelley-Ann & co, a job well done. This calls for a big party which they've already started in Bejing!!

Concerned, dissing Asafa will make him thrive. What did the old saying guh sey, "Stick and Stones....". Regardless of what he does, someone is going to criticize, so his back has to be broad to handle the negatives. AND let us stick by him.

When we placed an edited version of Earl Moxam's Sandy Bank Primary School graduation address on the forum, we left out a section which spoke of Jamaica's athletic prowess in the interest of space. In light of what is currently happening in Bejing, we thought it would be appropriate to post his comments made at the Sandy Bank Primary School graduation held July 5.

"If each of us develops an understanding of how special our country is we will all work to make it better, and if each one does his part in making it better, then, ultimately, Jamaica will confirm its place as one of the greatest countries on earth!

We have already demonstrated that in many fields - sport, academics, research, music.

I assert, in fact, that, on a per capita basis, Jamaica is almost without comparison in the world.

Just think about what we have accomplished in the field of athletics; particularly in the sprints.

Jamaica has a population of less than three million people. The United States, on the other hand, has over 300 million people!

Yet, in the finals of the women's 200 metres at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992, of the eight finalists, there were three Americans and three Jamaicans. And of the three medals up for grabs, two went to the Jamaicans!

A few weeks ago Jamaica and the United States held their trials for the Beijing Olympics in China on the same weekend.

In the finals of the 100 metres (for which only three can qualify from each country) our top five finishers had better times than the best of the American finalists. In other words, if this was a race in which the top five Americans and the top five Jamaicans had raced against each other, the best of the five Americans would have finished 6th!

Add to that the fact that among the men we will be going to Beijing with the two fastest in the world, and you get the picture of what an awesome people we are!

I make the comparisons with the United States in these examples, partly because it illustrates best the magnitude of our achievements.

It is also important to do so because far too often we use the United States as our point of reference when we wish to talk down Jamaica and say what a backward country we are.

Well, I make bold to assert that you should never think any less of yourselves as Jamaicans in comparison with citizens from any other country on this planet!"

Does anyone have a video of the actual medals ceremonies? I can't seem to find this on You Tube and I would love to see it.

In London watching the BBC I literally cried as they showed footage of Jamaicans watching and celebrating Usain's victory in Kingston. What all of this has done has highlighted Jamaica in a positive light worldwide where we have been stereotyped and demonised by some members of society for so long. Forget Michael Phelps, its all about Usain and the awesome talent that has broken records, won gold medals, inspired many and a personality that has gained fans from far and wide. Veronica tomorrow and relays after, Jamaica are on the go!

Agreed Smiles.

There is an alt to the saying: Sticks and Stone may break your Bones;

But, words CAN drive you crazy.

I've witnessed it.

Some make a practice of using words as a vampire uses it's fangs, to diminish emotional vitality or suposedly to rob one of psychic energy.

Words of dis-couragement and the rest.

Usain does not appear to be an egoist, he is a superb athlete basking in what is his.

The act of running is similar to dream running.

One cannot order the muscles to contract as fast as the brain is visualising the record breaking action, or the running away from the dream horror by dreamt muscles.

Any distracting stressors or loss of focus during the act interferes with the cadance of loping fast.

When it all comes together one dissociates and enters the 'zone' and watches it all happen as if from outside.

Drumming allows a similar state as in Kumina, but this is a private family or tribal act.

The Olympics is a global event. I wander how many know the athletes are getting performance high under their noses.

Usain Fan, I was able to watch it on the local CVM TV broadcast this morning.

I've just gotten back from a long day on the road today and what a great day to be on the road. We started to count the number of Jamaican flags we saw from when we left Black River heading towards Mobay. We got to about Ferris Cross and were at 40 which is when we quit counting. Everyone has a flag taped or tied onto their vehicles, waving from houses and bars, kids holding them and waving them walking down the road. And if you didn't have a flag you were wearing a Jamaica T-shirt, hat, bandana, or just the colors. The group of us traveling together sang the National Anthem about 4 times as none of us could get the words out of our heads after seeing the medals ceremony this morning.

One of the folks in our group traveled to Kingston yesterday and said we didn't see anything today compared to the amount of flags waving in Kingston yesterday. The Gleaner reports of streets of Kingston coming to a virtual stand still as people got out of their cars and sat on the roofs to listen on the radio or watch on TV Usain Bolt and Melaine Walker win their golds yesterday morning.

The Olympics is THE discussion. EVERYONE is talking about nothing else. And the hardest thing to find to purchase right now is the Jamaican flag.

And we still have tomorrow to go!!!!

Shine on Jamaica - shine on!

Our very own Earl Moxam had the opportunity to be in China for a week during the staging of the Olympics. He visited several important sites, some related to the Olympics, including the now famous Birds' Nest stadium in which our athletes have taken the world by storm!

Other locations visited inlude "The Cube" in which the water sports competitions were staged, Quindao Harbour for the sailing competition, plus important historic Chinese sites, such as The Great Wall and the Forbidden City.

Check out the Photo Gallery for some of Earl's photos reflecting highlights of his trip.

Thank you so much Earl for sharing your trip with us!

Our bag of 11 precious medals has given us tremendous recognition as a force to reckon with in the world. "We little but we tallawah." While our spirits are lifted let us all do somethig to support the many talents around us.Let us embrace class and quality and stop the futile blind grag for vanity.

Our athletes have given us a great start. Let's take the baton and run a good anchor leg.I know we can do it!
