My guess is that the small population of the immediate Treasure Beach area is too small to sustain a fast food outlet.

It's also my hope that none will come as the negative effects of obesity, diabetes, etc. of such outlets are pretty well documented.

Maybe in Junction...

Eric, for once in my life I agree with you. We do not NEED the negatives.

Gee, thanks. I think. Nothing like a backhanded compliment from a complete stranger. Jeesh.

There's no box lunch in TB?

Kate, are you really serious???? There are plenty of affordable places in TB without some fast food place to ruin the area.

Even Mr Natural has to comment that kate is stating her wants. Conditioned or otherwise.

If she wants the type of food high in refined sugars, low fibre carbs, saturated fats, artificial colors and flavors, preservatives etc etc; I'd suggest she take the trip to the nearest outlet. Hopefully never in TB.

Kate, I'm sure you've heard the facts about the typical fast food diet. Would you or others suggest a menu that consists of nutritious and tastefuly prepared foods that are ready to go as in 'fast'. I'm not suggesting vegan/vegetarian alone as these are minority but growing choices.

I told my fingers to go on strike today but they are completely hard ears.

I think that $250J for a fish dinner is pretty reasonable and much better for you than any of those fast food joints.
Eat healthy and live long.

Was this a real request or was this a joke?

Imported beef or chicken from Micky Dee's or KFC? How disgusting. How unhealthy. How overpriced. The only cheap thing about those places are the quality.

Does anyone know ALL the side effects of having high blood pressure and being overweight?

What's supposed to happen to all the people n Treasure Beach who eke out a living making and selling good and healthy food?

If you don't like what's being offered, open your own restaurant or go home and cook something for yourself.

I promise you KFC and Burger King are no bargain! I had a friend ask me to bring them something back from KFC the other day when I went to Santa Cruz. $450 for two small pieces of chicken, french fries and a soda!

I can get a delicious chicken dinner from pretty much any local restaurant including a generous portion of chicken, rice & peas and salad for around $300. This has all been home-made and using local meats and veggies.

You can get Juici Patties at a few of the local supermarkets.

I really did not mean that there should be any fast food chain in treasure beach! My point was even Junction did not have the need for fast food! I have ALWAYS enjoyed the local restaurant's...and the prices are VERY reasonable!!

So is there box lunch in TB somewhere? Chicken or fish and veg and rice for $300ish, to go, is what I mean.

If so, where?

Pretty much any and every local restaurant provides this. It's what many of us have for lunch many days a week! You can even purchase a half dinner which is a perfect lunch size for less money.

Kate,
Just think about this: Our athletes who are doing so well in the Olympics did not grow up on a fast food diet. They grew up eating the best natural foods available right here in Jamaica, especially the yam.
It is no coincidence, I believe, that two of our most outstanding - Usain Bolt and Veronica Brown (who won the 200 gold at the last Olympics) are both from Trealwny, the 'yam capital' of Jamaica.
Shelly-Ann Fraser, who just won the 100m gold, also stated boldly in Beijing that the yam, green bananas etc were crucial to her strengh and stamina.
Our obesity levels in Jamaica have no doubt gone up since the arrival of these fast food joints. And don't be surprised if down the road it also begins to have a negative impact on the performance of some of our athletes if they do not exercise sufficient discipline on their eating habits.
The last thing the children of Treasure Beach need is another negative habit to take them away from one of the positive traditions of the community - eating good natural foods.

Please note: That kate is not THIS Kate.

Can't imagine any of those places in TB. Junction is close enough.
One of the things I love about TB is the fact that it is NOT fast. OR commercial.

I'd rather buy from local cookshops than HUGE corporations. The food is 10 times better no matter what the cost.

I've always found it cheaper at local places as well.

Was this a serious post to start with? How on earth could the unheathy, overpriced food from KFC and MacDonalds be seen as a better alternative to the excellent food already available in TB? Every shop serves up delicious, natural food for far less than any fast food place. If that original Kate was serious: honey, try Blossom's, Gold Coast, M&D grocery, Diners Delight ... Try Morris or Hearts of Love for breakfast. No need to eat the pure garbage served up by American fast food restaurants. Eat well, eat plentifully, eat inexpensively all over TB.
