Hi Rebecca would it be possible to take donations on this page towards the fishermens project just as you did for the hurricane?
that way people could use paypal which is used worldwide and only takes about 30 seconds.
I think many people would prefer to donate in this way.
who would handle the money if this site could have a donate button on?

I have sent you the info as requested(3 seperate e-mails)
I have also emailed tanya from breds twice and jason a further time and asked everybody on this board for a rough estimate of boats-not one person has replied to any of my emails ,So not sure where to go from here really,I think there was me and perhaps 2 others who really wanted to move forward with this but if the people living in the area can't be bothered with it and give the impression they can take care of it themselves and do not need any help and will not co-operate in any way ,I just do not know how to be of further assistance.I am here if you need me,although by the lack of care and response perhaps you have sorted it all out already, great if you have But very shameful if nobody has.
You was offered help ,people were willing to help you and by the looks of it ,that help has been turned down,if I was a fishermen I would not risk my life every day for people who did not really care whether they made it back or not.
it is upsetting to watch.

excellent thanks a lot beach girl,i really appreciate you getting all of that information.
so is there just frenchman beach and great bay to find out about now?

so up to now only 10 deep sea fishing boats..i cannot see a problem with raising enough donations for this project.
as for the antenna,i am not sure why they have not put it up-i know it is repaired but going off my last email from tanya they were waiting for a surge protector to be put on it.i cannot comment further on that just yet as i am still waiting for replies from breds about things.
If they dont get back to me soon i will try to contact somebody else who may be interested in helping organising and distributing.
If you are reading this and you can help in any way please email me on jamaicansmiles@hotmail.com thankyou.

This unneeded delay is really a head scratcher. If I were down there right now, I would walk from bay to bay to get the answer. Sounds like a nice way to spend a day. Doesn't seem like that hard of a request. Do the fishermen have any idea of all the effort that sheryl seems to be putting forth, only to be met by wall after unneeded wall?
Those fruitbaskets are looking better every day.

Anyone ask the fishermen if they want assistance and if so in what form?

Maybe assistance could be called 'Voluntary Value Added Seafood Tax'. VVAST.

My first instalment waits.

"If I were down there right now, I would walk from bay to bay to get the answer"

me too,or at least my own bay just to know I did all I could.Doing something so simple could mean something as huge as saving a boats crew,
their lives and many more over time.

Beachgirl actually has provided figures for 2 bays-All respect to her for that,
Jah p has said we do not need to continue the project or send money so I am just waiting to hear the good news now that everybody has been provided for and somebody answered all of those prayers.

BBay, I am attempting to help you with your numbers for Sheryl. I will have the exact count for Billy's Bay posted by tomorrow -- the number of boats and the number of fishermen who go out on those boats.

In Billy's Bay, there are 14 active fishing boats -- meaning boats that leave from and return to there. Assuming they are all out at once (definitely possible), it takes 46 fishermen, including captains, to man these 14 boats. There are actually more than 46 fishermen, but some are back-ups, and some of the additional men go out when one crew comes in. Assuming everyone was to have their own life jackets (as opposed to sharing), it would take more than 46 jackets.

The life jackets currently being used are Coast Guard-certified, but they are not really acceptable for going out to sea; instead, they are the type that are appropriate for the tour boats which stay relatively close to the shore ("acceptable" but not "recommended"). Also, the jackets currently in use are not of the quality that lasts; therefore, they are getting ruined fairly quickly.

A fisherman does not need to be wearing a jacket when pulling the traps, as this is not done when the weather is fierce. Plus, the captain is standing by the engine and can retrieve anyone who might fall overboard.

I have been told the radios would probably be used by all the boats, but there is a "macho" element involved with some wearing the life jackets.
