Lets say a tourist gets robbed. Lets say the police do a great job locating the thief and the tourists gets his money back. Where would this tourist write on behalf of this particular police officer who worked so hard not only to return the money, but to stop what could have been disasterous for the tourist industry by stopping the spread of fear? Who would the tourist write so this police officers actions are recognized? The police take alot of heat for various things legitimate or not, so when they do something with alot of honor and integrity, someone with higher authority should be made aware. Thanks.

Nice idea - probably they receive complaints most of the time, so I'm sure they'll be happy to get some positive feedback for a change :-)
My suggestion: Write to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (http://www.jcf.gov.jm) and/or the Jamaican Embassy in your country (list of embassies: http://www.un.int/jamaica/missions.htm)

I am hesitant to give any details, as it probably will not be allowed to print here, as this site basically promotes positive vibes and things. I tried to give details a week ago but it did not print. So that is what I will do, promote the positive response of the police. I do not necessarily agree with this, but this is not my site. But I will say that the police apprehended the armed man days later. So there should be no fear of this guy with a gun to anyone any longer.

When I had cash stolen from my daughter in Jamaica,i reported it to the local police station as without a crime reference number ,I could not claim on my insurance which i had specifically paid extra for baggage and cash going missing
the police said they were not a charity and would not give me a reference number-they said they had not heard of it before.so i could not claim.

Goneback, it would be better to tell clearly whether such robberry really happened to you. If so, then speak frankly about it - where was it, what happened and so on....
Otherwise you are only frightening other tourists for nothing.

We have to welcome any trying to put forward positive vibes and things, thatīs for sure. But the way I understand it by what Goneback said, it looks as if TB-Website does ignore that there is the dark side in life too. And it has not stopped at the entrance of TB. I have always seen this site as very good source of information. To my mind you cannot close your eyes believing nothing has happened because you have not seen it. You should be serious with your tourist-brothers and sisters.

Crime happens everywhere and truthfully I feel safer in Treasure Beach than I do in my own city .

Ivorycoast as you can read the moderators have chosen not to post the details of this incident.

The posting must not have fit in with the guidelines for posting on this forum.

Now might be a good time to have the moderators direct us to the rules and guidelines for posting on this forum. I have tried to locate such a page and have not been successful in the past.

Maybe someone can give us some direction in this regard.

OK, I did it once, and I will try again...
It happened on the beach by Golden Sands. I gave the police the description of the guys. They caught one but the other is on the run. They caught the guy pointing the gun. Mr. Patterson was the officer who worked so hard to find the criminal, put him behind bars and get my money back. As tourists, I found out, we only have a small window of opportunity to get anything back. Unless you are willing to come back to go to court, and point out the guy in a line up, the criminal will be released and charges dropped. I personally could not afford to hang around Jamaica for another month, nor could I afford to come back. So Mr. Patterson worked diligently to get a confession and my money back while I was still there. I got back every penny of my $600US. And the police came back to my hotel on several occasions to make sure I was doing ok after such an experience. Oh, the robbers pretended that they were police. So, as a tourist, a guy with a gun stating that he is the police is quite intimidating. I don't think the police took too kindly to someone smearing their reputation pretending to be them. Added incentive I am sure. The police definatly sent a message that this type of behavior will be met head on and not tolerated. I hear this guys time in jail was, let's just say, not pleasant. And one more important fact: The gun pointer was NOT from Treasure Beach.

Goneback, if you recall your original post held some strong negative adjectives regarding the local police and their actions towards the crime committed against you. It was not the report of the crime that made us not approve the message, but the comments made against the police. In light of the fact that the police did come through, we feel justified in not approving the original negative remarks.

Another reason for not approving the original posting was what we heard on the street differed from your account. One point being we've heard it was a fish gun and not a firearm. There were other details of your account which were also in dispute. We try very hard not to post rumors but facts and until we could find out the actual facts, we would not approve the post. We attempt to do this for everyone's protection, including yours, as we would not like to know anyone was falsely accused.

Looking . . . every time you post a message the following information comes up:

You know, I may be from the big city, but I know a gun when I see one. And even if it were a fish gun, does that make it OK?
I wonder why no one looked me up, as everyone in town knew who I was. No one bothered to come talk to me face to face, find out my side, but yet listen carefully to 'heard on the street', and now I am thousands of miles away. If there were other details which were in dispute, why did no one ask? Other than the criminals, I was the only one there, so who did you talk to who said it was a fish gun and the 'other details in dispute'? You will also notice that I have not given any names of the criminals, and I have their names. The whole purpose of my messages was to warn others. My original message had these guys still wandering around with a smile on their faces and my money in their pockets. My original post was titles "fake police". In my accusations, I never gave any names or descriptions, only what the actions were. So to say you were protecting someone from being falsly accused is innacurate.

Let me also say that even though the message did not meet guidelines, the incident of what happened could have still been submitted by someone, as to warn people of who was out there. And again, if facts were in dispute, no one bothered to talk to me, therefore I feel the incident was not taken seriously. And this is probably not the best way to get the word out, as I found that 50% of the residents have not heard of this website, and 95% have never seen it. At the time of my original post, yes, I was very upset. But on a very positive note, I was humbled at the outpouring of support I received from the folks of Treasure Beach. That was really awesome.
