What can be done with that water pool in the road near the King Fisher Plaza? The problem was further up the road and the road is fixed and the problem pushed further down the road. It is terrible when rain falls for both pedestrians and motorists.

Report it to the Parish Council, local MP, and/or Department of Works.

Sorry to say, many of us living in the area have done this already again and again . . . and you see the fast results it has had . . .

I guess we can file this road "repair" right up there with the finishing of the canal.

My point is that if a single citizen just reports it to the Parish Council they don't care hoot. There are too many bodies in TB that can rise up and use their collaborative effort and force to request that this problem be fixed. These bodies include the Womens' Group, Breds, or the Citizen Group. It is disgusting to see the school children at time just wading barefooted through this dirty water. Not to mention adults I don't know how they stand this dirty ritual each time it rains.

Dirty Water, why don't YOU organize a good number of citizens AND groups to do this together? I do not doubt anything you say, but someone needs to take the leadership role in this, and why should this leader not be you?

My point is that the persons living in the area stood there or in their homes and allow the NWA to do this i.e. pushing the water further down the road. You and I know that citizens alone hardly have any chat unless it is done by a body that has a title which was why I mentioned some bodies earlier. I am ready to demonstrate as this is the only way the citizens will be heard. Furthermore you need to understand that it is not only citizens who read this site but lots of visitors (so you don't know who I am to be writing in that tone 'dictionary'.

I think Dictionary has a great point. Please let those of us living in the area know what you are organizing and then you may be able to get further local support.

I find it is always more productive to start something and then get support than to ask someone else to start it and expect it to be done.

I meant no disrespect whatsover with my comments. If I had made my remark aloud you would realize that. Sometimes when people read an email or a posting, they also read what they believe to be someone else's tone. In this case, you misunderstood my meaning. I am attempting to help, not be critical. I believe you are obviously a concerned and interested person, and I think you must know others who feel like you do. My suggestion is to organize them and see what you can do together. If you want your organization to have a name to make it sound official, then do so. The important thing is to bring dedicated people together because there is strength in numbers.

ok here is what could be done 1 problem to them is insignificant but maybe if lets say there are 10 problems that you want addressed, you identify them, write them down and bring it to the parish councilor and take his picture when you hand it to him and post it on tb.net so every one can see including him, and maybe this fical year it can be resolved accordingly........

I would have to catch a plane to come organize something with u guys. The community members are not proactive - I don't believe they see this as a problem - if they did then it would still not be like this.

I believe Jamaicans on a whole dont like complaining, but if you dont complain and take a stand, no changes will happen.
For example, I was recently in Jamaica and once again the potholes are a nightmare and I dont enjoying driving in Jamaica, its bad enough watching out for the bad drivers who dont drive on there side of the road, indicate and overtake around bends and then having to look out for pot holes. I happen to mention to some of the residents that I will be writing to the MP for St Elizabeth on my return to the UK. They told me that I would be wasting my time, especially not living in Jamaica. I had to explain a few points why writing and expressing my views might open a few can of worms.

Come up Jamaicans- Bob Marley said "get up stand up for your right and dont give up the fight"

You all need to be singing from the same hymn sheets (unite)

I believe Jamaicans are as willing to complain as people from most other countries. They certainly do not have a repressive government such as Burma that will actually punish people severely for complaining, so they should not be afraid to complain. Like most people, no matter from what country, Jamaicans are much more likely to complain among themselves as opposed to complaining to government officials. One of the differences I see is that when Jamaicans do register an official complaint, whether individually or as part of a group, they are more likely to accept no as an answer. Jamaicans, as a whole, appear to feel powerless against their government. The government may take advantage of this, knowing they won't have to deal with many complainers.

However, when I saw what happened in the last election, I realized Jamaicans made a concerted effort to cause a major change in the government. Much of that took place in St. Elizabeth and Treasure Beach. People bothered to vote, and they realized each and every vote made a difference.

I urge you to come together, even in small groups. Select one or two things that need to be fixed. Figure out which elected official can help with the situation. Contact that person and be very clear with what you are seeking to have changed and explain why it is so important to the community.

If you BELIEVE you can make a difference, you will.
