We are raffling off a week at Doubloon Villa, one of the most beautiful villas in Treasure Beach. Doubloon will sleep up to six in three bedrooms; it has three full baths, and the indoor relaxation areas are quite spacious. It's on the sea with exquisite views, especially from its unique sun and moon deck. Doubloon’s pool is 40 feet long and is enhanced by a tiki hut. Doubloon has free wireless internet throughout the villa—even by the pool. Doubloon’s wonderful, gracious staff will prepare delicious meals, keep the villa spotless, and will even handle your laundry needs. As an added bonus, Doubloon’s gardens are particularly lovely.

A copy of the brochure (shown above) is available as a PDF at http://www.rainbowtreevillas.com/foundation.html. We encourage you to email the PDF to anyone who might be interested.

You can also get much more information on Doubloon by going to (www.DoubloonVilla.com). And you can find out more about the Scholarship Program by going to the “Charity” tab on the Doubloon site. Information on Treasure Beach Foundation is available at (www.rainbowtreevillas.com/foundation.html).

Tickets are $25 (U.S.) each or five for $100. The deadline for receipt of money for the tickets is June 24, 2008.
Online ticket sales are safe and secure; you can buy tickets online—from any country, in any currency—using American Express, MasterCard, or VISA. (We are notified within minutes of when you make your transaction.) To purchase tickets online, click the "Donate Now" button on the Treasure Beach Foundation page (www.rainbowtreevillas.com/foundation.html) and follow the easy instructions.
You can also mail us a check. If you choose this option, please allow sufficient time for it to reach us. Also, we can only accept U.S. checks—no money orders or travelers checks.
The winning ticket will be drawn the evening of June 26 and will be announced on TreasureBeach.net as soon as the winner is notified. The winner has one year to use Doubloon (on a space-available basis).

100% of the proceeds are going to the Scholarship Fund. We now have 11 students on scholarship. We hope to continue to support these 11 next year, and will be awarding even more scholarships in the midst of selling this year’s raffle tickets. So your support is very important.

If you buy a ticket online, and also say you want your name withheld from us (meaning you have asked to be "anonymous") we cannot send you a ticket because we don't know your name or address.

One person has already done this, probably by mistake.

We want anyone who buys a ticket to have an equal chance, but we can't give you an opportunity to win without knowing who you are.

Why does information as important as this disappear from the current postings? I know the kids need this money for the scholarship program.

When do this year's scholarships get awarded?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By TBNet on Sunday, June 01, 2008 - 09:13 am: Edit Post

To Wondering:

Please understand how the 'recent posting' links work. If you click on the 'New in the past 24 hours', it will only show new posts from that time period.

For example, Karen's message was posted on May 30 at 2:10pm. Yours was posted more than 24 hours after that, on June 1 at 6:53am. If you clicked 'New in past 24 hours' just before you posted, Karen's message would not appear since it had been around 41 hours.

So the messages do not 'disappear'. They are showing up exactly as they are supposed to. Its really a matter of where you're looking for them.

Here's our suggestion: use the 'New in the past week' link to make sure you don't miss new posts if you don't check every day.

Hope this helps,
-TBNet

The new scholarships should be awarded within a few days of when the GSAT scores are published; this probably means within the next week or two. Our Board has carefully reviewed each students's set of applications, and each student has already been assigned a score based on several different criteria. The missing piece of the total puzzle is the GSAT score. Contrary to what many people believe, the GSATs are not the only determining factor for obtaining a scholarship; there are many more. We do require, however, that any student awarded a scholarship attain an overall score of 75 on his or her GSATs -- no matter how well they may have scored on all our other criteria.

I just put my check in the mail. Then it occured to me, how would I get notified if I win because I didn't enclose anything with either my phone number or my email. I KNOW I am going to win, and I don't want to wait for a LETTER from you. I want to book my trip ASAP.

Are you getting a good response to the raffle? How much are you hoping to raise? Well done to everyone involved with this. Good job! Also to the children who are working so hard to win these scholarships. I hope everybody comes through for you.

Excuse me. I will be winning.

Dear Person Who Hopes to be THE Winner: Thanks very much for calling this to my attention. If you would e-mail me directly (just hit the link with my name) and tell me who you are and give me your phone number and e-mail address, that would be appreciated.

To Anyone Mailing Us A Check for Raffle Tickets: please attach something to your check with your telephone number(s) and e-mail address so we can notify you if you win.

Our mistake -- our apologies.

I notice you have not said how this raffle is coming along. I am not certain if you can share figures; if so, I would also like to know how much money will be required for the scholarships, including the new ones that will be given.

WISHING YOU THE VERY BEST OF LUCK.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Karen Kennedy on Thursday, June 05, 2008 - 07:25 pm: Edit Post

Thank you for asking. The raffle is coming along quite well.

As we are not certain how many scholarships we'll be awarding, I cannot tell you how much money will be required for the new scholarships. Also, we have 11 students currently on scholarship, and we want to be able to continue to support them; whether or not they will get an award for next year is going to depend upon how well they did with their grades this school year. And, those grades will not be out until July. Ideally, all 11 will do sufficiently well to get a scholarship for next year.

The better the students do, the more money we will need.

We have made a commitment to do the best we can for these marvelous students.

We ask that you make a commitment to help this program succeed by buying one or more raffle tickets.

I am guessing the answer is no, but does the winner have to be present when the winning raffle ticket is drawn? I ask because I have bought tickets to some raffles where you lost if your ticket number was called and you were not there. Then the people drew a different number.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Karen Kennedy on Friday, June 06, 2008 - 05:33 pm: Edit Post

You are right. You do not have to be present to win. Putting all the people who bought tickets in one place at the same time would be impossible. We have people from several different countries who buy these raffle tickets.

Could some Doubloon guests please comment on their experiences stsying there. It looks gorgeous, but I'd like to hear more. There are few photos of the inside of the villa on their site.

I've never stayed there. I have been inside when a friend of mine did. It's GREAT!! Big living room, big dining room, 3 bedrooms, 3 baths. Oh - also a very pretty rear sunroom facing toward the sea.

Spectacular deck atop the villa. Lovely staff. We absolutely suggest you buy tickets.

Have just gotten home from church. We prayed not to win the raffle but for all the students who sat for the exams. May many of you receive the scholarships you so justly deserve; and may Treasure Beach Foundation raise sufficient funds to support all those who win.

As a repeat Doubloon guest, I can tell you, with no uncertainty, that you should buy a ticket, or two or five! (If this wasn't such a wonderful program, I'd hardly be as encouraging - since less bought, better chances for me...lol)

We have stayed at Doubloon three times and will be there again in 19 days (yayyyyyyy us!). The villa is gorgeous; spacious, very clean and comfortable, the setting (IMHO) is the best in TB, and the people associated with Doubloon are second to none! We truly feel like we are home when we stay there.

My early morning coffee sitting on the deck; seeing some of the boats come in or go out, the early risers on the beach .....ahhhh, soon come.

So...buy tickets! The scholarship program is something that can only move forward with our support and a week at Doubloon is going to someone. There really is no downside to this.

We're repeat Doubloon guests too - wish we were there in 19 days time! Say hi to Lavern, Hio and Robert for us - they're awesome!

Shauna, I know what you mean about that early morning coffee on the roof deck, it is amazing. You end up boz-eyed with one eye on the sun rising over the mountains and another on the sea, watching the fishing boats!

It's great being able to walk to Jake's and Jack Sprat too. Although after two of Dougie's pina coladas my legs don't seem to want to move in any direction!

Doubloon is my piece of paradise and for that I thank Treasure Beach and its community. I've bought my raffle tickets ... now it's your turn!

Thank you for your comments. Doubloon sounds wonderful. Candidly, even if Doubloon wasn't so nice, I would feel quite stingy by not sharing some of my money by purchasing a ticket. I saw what this scholarship fund does to assist these young people, and that's quite important.

ALERT to people buying raffle tickets online:

You must supply your name and address and not mark your form as anonymous donor. Anonymous donations are welcomed. But, we can't enter "anonymous" in the drawing for the villa raffle. (That does make sense if you think about it.)

We have two people who have done this so far -- presumably in error. If you contact me and can answer some simple questions, I can put your name on the tickets. If I do not hear from either of you, you've made a donation and will not receive tickets.

Our intention is to be as fair as possible to all the wonderful people who are supporting us. Please help us do that.

I know you will not give out exact figures and that is probably right because they are private. I am figuring with the new scholarships given out yesterday you have a big, big job to do to raise enough money for all the students. Could you tell us if it looks like you will be able to cover the expenses for the students?

"Where there is a will, there's a way."

We have made a commitment to support these students, and we will.

The assistance from our donors and raffle ticket buyers is heartwarming, though I will not pretend we do not need to sell more raffle tickets. We do.

Also, the Stuart Duggan Memorial Fund is paying for the costs for two of the 17 we currently have on scholarship. This is a big help.

I have not received my raffle ticket even though I bought one the first day they went on sale.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Karen Kennedy on Thursday, June 12, 2008 - 11:05 am: Edit Post

We will get all the tickets out before the drawing takes place, but I know everyone will not have received their tickets by then. The U.S. Postal Service is not the fastest, and a lot of the tickets have been bought by people in countries outside the U.S.; so this will slow down receipt of tickets even more. (The first batch will be dropping in the mail tomorrow morning.)

I promise you will be entered as long as we have your money by midnight on June 24.

And, thank you very much for your support.

Is there a minimum or maximum number of tickets that need to be sold?
