Hi! We are planning our first trip to Jamaica in July, our first. We picked the Treasure Beach area as it sounded like just what we wanted. We are staying at the Villa Ja Ja. Since this is our first trip there, we wondering what all everyone would recommend as sites to see, etc. We are a couple , with 2 children in their 20s. We plan, of course, to spend a lot of time just relaxing and seeing the "real" Jamaica . Thanks to all!

I recommend Gut River for a swim then Little Ochie's for an early dinner then sunset and nightcap at Lover's Leap. Pelican Bar and Black River are both great trips. Also Back Seaside is beautiful if you can get a guide to hike there with you. Jean Genus took us. It's a good hike from Villa Ja Ja. TB is a great destination!

I would agree with everyone's suggestions so far. And I'd add a few of my own:

I always make sure to have at least one chance to go for breakfast at Jackie and Audrey's coffee shop (Heart of Love Bakery) on Sunday mornings when lots of people gather to talk and joke and hang out.

Also, Captain Dennis' shallow bar looks like too much fun. I haven't been to TB since it first went into the water, but I definitely want to try that on my next trip.

A visit to each of the gorgeous and excellent beaches is certainly in order, too.

I'd also recommend taking the walk from Calabash Bay over to Great Bay along the coastline. It's a little challenging in places, but it's really a great walk. Or, you could shorten the trip by going from Ja-Ja over to Great Bay. Just walk out to the beach, turn left and start following the shoreline. (Be careful going around Tranquility Bay.)

If you're in shape and feel like getting a good workout, rent a bicycle and ride around the area. You'll cover much more ground than you would on foot, and provide your own air conditioning as you go.

A sunset with a cool drink at Dougie's Bar is a must. Dougie is the sweetest man in the known world, and his bar has a glorious view.

A steam bath and massage from Shirley at the start of your trip to wash all the 'city' out of you and let you relax and enjoy your stay, and then ...

A massage from Joshua at the end of your trip to send you off to the plane in a blissful mood.

Whatever you do, you'll have a great trip. Wish I was there right now myself!

I agree with the steam bath and massage from Shirley. Her new place is so wonderful and her gardens are beautiful. I have visited her on both visits to T.B. and it is better than any spa day I have ever had anywhere. She will have someone pick you up if you let her know. I also suggest you make a trip to see Guilty (a great artist) in Great Bay behind Clever's shop up the road from the grocery store.

For an extra special treat, visit Lenox at Love Rock Beach Bar at Billy's Bay. Good music, cold beer overlooking the fisherman beach. Our favorite place in TB! Lenox...soon come my friend. Respect.
