Bryan, Glad to know that you're in TB. Did you rent a car? If yes; how was the drive? There are many tasty small cookshops along the roadsideand more but I will leave it to others to weigh in...enjoy with your son

One of my favorite places to eat is at the little local grocery store down the road. On Sundays? or was it Saturdays? they have the BEST jerk chicken and pork.
Sunset Resort also has some really good meals for the money.

The waves in Frenchman's sure looked surf-able to me, and Diner's Delite an excellent cook-house. If open, the beachfront cookhouse just west of Golden Sands was quite good and you can watch the boy surf while you relax in the shade.

we made it after to flat tires in spanish town getting on the wrong road and started going to Ochio thru the mountains. Then making it to mandeville but not finding the right turn to get on the bypass. After several tries to find he bypass it was 430am so parked the car in a shopping plaza in mandeille and got a few hours sleep thinking having some day light would help. Ended up getting lost 1 more time on a road in the mountains that would have taken us to Montego Bay. We finally made to treasure beach (really not that difficult of a drive once you know where your going next trip will be easier). we had to face one more hurdle a dead car battery but at least I'm at the villa. "Jamaica its not just a vacation but an adventure" We had pizza at Jack Sprat's tonight but open to suggestions for the next 3 nights. Treasure beach has not been a disappointment everything I thought it would be

You missed the big waves last week. It just got calm the last two days. If the waves do get high...please be careful, the undertow can be treacherous. Usually Calabash Bay or Frenchman's Bay for surfing. He may have to snorkell instead.

I just returned last week and a great place to eat was Michael's Cook Shop in Great Bay. We ate lunch there almost everyday. He served fresh fish and rice and peas or french fries for $500j . He is located next to the grocery store behind the brown bar on the beach.

Hey man, get out and ask people in the area these questions. That's half the fun of being in a new place, especially one with as friendly of people as Treasure Beach.

Ask the staff at Calabash house about drivers. I'm sure they can help you out.

Diners delight is not far from there. Again, ask the staff.

Bryan if you made it safe to Treasure Beach after the experience you went through getting there from Kingston then your troubles should be over.
Do not be afraid to mingle with the natives I'm sure your inner gut will let you know if you think someone or something doesn't seem right.
It doesn't matter where in the world you go on a vacation never throw caution to the wind.
There is always one or two bad apples in the pile to spoil it for someone.

The place with the jerk is M&D Grocery on the hill in Calabash Bay. You can get a bottle of wine in the store to go with your meal. The conch soup is also rocking!

Yup, if you are staying at Calabash House. Turn to your left down the road is a small grocery store. But last time I was there he only had it on the weekend.

Go out your gate, take a left and it is the first shop on your left. Just follow your nose and go today, as the jerk chicken, jerk pork and conch soup will only be available today - Saturday.

I missed it since we left early this morning but I guess I can add that to the reasons to come back

Bryan - if you are still there - the BEST surfing when the weather's right is up by TRanquility Bay - just by the car park and not 300 yards from a place called Miss Panty's Hole. A good surf can come into Treasure Beach Bay itself but only at certain times are the waves not dumpers.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Frenchman girl on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 - 03:52 pm: Edit Post

Miss Panty Hole is a dangerous spot

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Rebecca on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 - 04:33 pm: Edit Post

Hmmm, before we start getting all kinds of comments I thought I would explain. Panty hole is the local name for a small inlet just past Tranquility Bay. And I would agree with Frenchman Girl, when the sea is rough Panty Hole is a very dangerous place to swim.

If you notice, Uncle Peter said the place he was referring to is just before Panty Hole.

Uncle Peter Have you ever seen any one surf there? I was walking one day and saw surfable waves there. I grew up surfing and still do. maybe we should get the kids some boards to learn Or at least good boogie boards. I,ll be back in Feb.

Hmmm Rebecca thanks for clarifying Panty Hole as our minds are sometimes worped....LOL . But indeed don't go near that spot

Who can best tell the story of how Panty Hole got it's name.

Does anyone know who the missing lady was?

Hi Surf - yes my son discovered the Tranquility Bay potential in Nov 06 and for a couple of days he had great surfing there. I have some photos somewhere - of the surf and him in action. I'll try and look them out. Got an email address for me?

Best place to eat is Winsome's down on the beach at Frenchman, she is a wicked cook (next to Golden Sands and is Coot's old bar). I couldnt wait to taste her barbeque chicken wings again and they were just as good as 5 years ago! Soup, fish, chicken are all very good and it is lovely eating and looking down on the sea. Dont worry you dont get hassled. Please support her.

Coot's old bar? Coot's beach bar is gone?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Jean on Monday, April 28, 2008 - 04:04 am: Edit Post

No, did I say that! Winsome is using it as a restaurant, like she did years ago.

Winsome's is clearly the best food on the beach complete with atmosphere and reasonable prices. I have to Thank Gairy for that tip.

Winsome's is awsome! The fresh fruit juices rock, the food is fresh and delicious, and all at very reasonable prices.

She is located to the right of Golden Sands (if you are looking at the sea) right on Frenchman's beach.

Check it out for sure!

I ate at Winsomes twice while there and the food was very good - especially the callaloo fritters..yum yum! Fries are really good too!
