New features

Treasure Beach Forum: Web site redesign: New features
Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By TBNet on Monday, June 29, 2009 - 04:01 pm: Edit Post

Here are some of the new features we have in mind. If you have comments on them, or if you have new ones to suggest, please let us know here.

Search:
The ability search for text on any page of the site. Currently, you can only do this for posts in the Forum.

The ability to search for particular criteria in the Where to Stay and Eat and Play sections. For example, search for all properties under $200 a day in Frenchman's Bay.

Calendar
We are going to (finally) activate the Calender button at the top of the screen and allow people to post upcoming events and activities.

We'll add more ideas as think them up...

What about you?

Have you ever been on our site and thought "I wish I could do [fill in the blank"

Are there ideas from other sites you'd like to see incorporated here?

We'd love to hear your thoughts. (But realize we can't promise that we'll add them)

It might be a good idea to have 'Special Offers' in one place, which would cover flight deals we have spotted, rental 'specials', 'meal deals' at local restaurants etc. etc.

I'm always interested in concerts, events, live music, art shows, sport events happening when I'm visiting, usually February. An ongoing calendar with such postings -- including non subscribers -- would be great. I could check it before I leave the States.

And, hey. Despite the current tensions, this site keeps me connected in the best way to my favorite travel spot. Keep it up.

I would like to see a real estate section where people could advertise properties for sale or rent and vice versa (looking for a place to buy or rent).

I would like to see more on residents of Treasure Beach. I know you try for one a month, but that doesn't always happen. I would like to see more.

I would also like to see write ups on TB people who now live elsewhere but still have very strong ties to the community.

HOw about a 'reasoning' section, so we can keep the touchy feely good stuff seperate from the conflicts, which tend to take most space lately?

Yeah, I think this a good idea mnken..........a special forum section for the political aspects of this world and us......the more "talky" outspoken ones.(if that section is possible by T/net "techies".

On the Where to Stay searching, it would be good if one could search all of Treasure Beach for such things as # of bedrooms or # of people who could sleep there (or both), if a place has a pool and other criteria that people found important.

How about restaurant reviews. Now places seem to be opening, and sometimes others shut. People mention names of places but a lot of them are unfamiliar to me. This would not have to be only about "fancy" restaurants but could even include good little jerk places, etc. It would be good if these could include hours/days of operation and a rough idea of what an average meal might cost (with and without liquor or beer). I always like to try new places especially if people have good things to say about them.

How abt it, that is what the Treasure Beach site is all about already........however, because of the heated conversation and topics that can pop up from some of the topics involved, TB Net is trying to maybe come up with a site where others an feel free to voice their opinions,in a forum specific to the topics/issues without hurting the "beautiful site" that there is already.(At least I think that's what they are trying to do here)..........may be I'm wrong. Any ideas TB Net.(Talking about you Eric... :-))

The purpose of this redesign is to give the site a fresh look (its been 10 years!) and to add new features that will make the site easier to use and more helpful for our visitors.

Hope that answers your question, OneLoveGirl.

I agree that It would be great to have an online chat facility however treasure beach is already on facebook and maybe it would be a difficult thing to acheive as I presume there is a budget for this re design and also there are already social networking sites we can be part of free of charge to comunicate in real time/ share views and photos like the above mentioned facebook, there are many others just some are more widely used like FB.
With all the great ideas mentioned in other posts I am so excited to see the new tb.net and see the improvements although it's already a great website:-) keeping us all up to date.
I don't know what I would do without treasurebeach.net!
Love to you all

Is this the facebook page you are speaking of? There are actually a couple I found and not sure which one everyone is using.

This FB link looks like its sponsored somehow by a company (JamaicaMAX) that's selling vacations. Their web site has a deal for a vacation in South Carolina, so I'm not sure how they're tied to Jamaica. My (cynical) guess is that they're just trying to do business.

Mair, you did a FB page to TB, right? What's the link?

Eric, the Treasure Beach group on FB that's not sponsored (the one founded by Mary) has the following link: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Treasure-Beach-Jamaica/119072970153#/group.php?gid =129072625316

I would suggest using an open source content management system, I've used drupal from drupal.org or typo3 from typo3.org to develop various community projects.

Hello to all, I first would like to say thanks for the opportunity to be able to give influence on a project you have intended. I had the privilege to post one of my video on your website and the response i got was very encouraging thank you. I would like to see you open a video page, where people that have visited Treasure Beach, or live there and share their experiences. Examples: (places to rent or buy, shops, restaurants, parties, the people, vacationing, and etc.. This would magnify what Treasure Beach have to offer.

I would like to see a unedit forum where whatever we write that is what is seen, it should open so we can express our opinions the way we want it to come cross instead of you editing and maybe taking away for what i really to say

Add a Soap-Box Corner for political issues etc. President Obama alone would make for some fiery discussions...this surely would balance out the 'touchy feely' nature of the site!
